They gave hearts joy, wings to the thoughts
Kids were judging the puppet performances
Decision making was given to children at the 16th International Puppet Festival in Békéscsaba, the jury of five students rewarded the best performances in six categories and, of course, on Sunday, 21st June at the closing ceremony of the three-day event, the audience prize was also distributed.

A huge playground, tumblers and a minicircus were waiting for children in front of the Jókai Theatre, rumbling sailing boats, “Catch me if you can”, button football, baiting, meandrine bowling on the booths, and in one of the tents we could see exhibition from the Circus Mechanicus stages, and in the other photos from Ferkó Kádár. The Orchestra of the Napsugár Puppet Theater, the Rokodal, amused the audience, Soós Emőke was singing children’s songs and melodized poems for the audience coming from the walk or from the recent puppet show. Of course, there was no lack of soap bubbles and ice creams in the real fair atmosphere. Young parents brought their offsprings, or the little ones pulled the grandmothers firmly to the stage and the crowd.
After six o’clock everyone was more and more tense waiting for the prize winner. The arrival of the director Zsóka Csortán, artistic director of the Napsugár Puppet Theater with a flock of children indicated that the jury had made its decision.
- The festival came to its last station and the jury deserves a great applause because there is a lot of tedious work behind them – Zsóka Csortán said and then introduced the children. The talented members of the jury were selected in advance to represent all provinces. The following participated in judging the performances and awarding diplomas: Bobály Vendel (tale-telling, Slovak Grammar School, Elementary School), Péter Gulyás (music, Inner-city Primary School and Grammar School), Anna Kecskeméti (dance, Gyula Andrássy Grammar School), Laura Kovács (acting , Kazinczy Ferenc Primary School), Péter Szenográdi (drawing, Primary Elementary School and Grammar School).
According to the jury’s decision, the diploma for the funniest performance was given to Dávid Fekete for the “Törökvész Vitéz, or László Vitéz and the Turks”, for the best music “Cinderella” of the Ciróka Puppet Theater. For the most moving story, the jury awarded the Vojtina Puppet Theater’s plax “Little King of December”. The most exciting puppet was Dávid Fekete’s Vitéz László, the most exciting sight title was given to Enrico Monto’s “Sicily”. The best foreign performance was the Russian conductor Viktor Antonov’s “Circus on Strings”. The audience prize was also won by Dávid Fekete’s Vitéz László.
Zsóka Csortán called the farewell moment of the hunting lodge, the puppet festival, the most impressive moment of serfs.
- Ladies and Gentlemen, Dear Children! The foal is bidding farewell, fulfilled its mission, gave joy to hearts, catharsis to spirits, and wings to thoughts. Dear Children! I wish you to improve these wings to fly freely to the Sun, the Moon and the stars, or back to your memories of, to the XVIth International Puppet Festival, to Békéscsaba!
After the closing, the perticipants of the puppet festival and the audience of Békéscsaba celebrated in the yard of Ibsen House with a concert from Balázs Szabó and his band.
